The gimmick

What Lagavulin Matriarch does

The one thing that defines this fight — read this before you draft your route.

Starts asleep behind heavy armor and, once awake, repeatedly debuffs your Strength and Dexterity while buffing her own. Every drain cycle permanently weakens your attacks and block, so the fight only gets worse the longer it lasts.

Game plan

How to beat Lagavulin Matriarch

Ordered priorities for the fight. Tools shift by deck, but these beats hold across most archetypes.

  1. Use the sleep turns to set up your engine — Powers, scaling cards, and draw — but be ready to commit the moment she wakes.
  2. Damage that bypasses Strength scaling is gold here: poison and orb/status damage keep working even as she shreds your stats.
  3. Once she is awake, rush her down — do not settle into a long block-trade, because each drain cycle leaves you permanently weaker.
  4. If you cannot out-tempo the drains, lean on effects that do not care about your Strength/Dexterity rather than trying to out-stat her.

Class-specific tips

How each kit leans into this matchup. Open a class hub for full builds and card priorities.

Silent builds →

Poison is the textbook answer — it ignores the Strength/Dexterity drain entirely and keeps ticking while she weakens your attacks.

Defect builds →

Orb damage scales off Focus rather than Strength, so a Defect deck can keep dealing damage right through her debuffs.
